Since the repurchase of the Hankow Canton concession, all work thereon has been stopped. American engineers have been discharged and the staff has taken over the Samshui branch line, run and managed by special officers. It is being printed by Chang Chih-tung.
With regard to the Canton-Kowloon Railway, the L[icentiate] has several times written to the multimillionaire H[onorable] Chien-hawn, asking him to try and raise funds for constructing this line, so as to forestall the foreigners. He has agreed and is now in the Straits Settlements in pursuit of this object.
The projected railways from Canton to Whampoa, Canton via Swatow and Amoy to Foochow have been abandoned.
